  Summer Garris honored with Excel Award 

  The Excel Award made its annual journey to LaRue County to name that school system's teacher of the year. She is English teacher Summer Garris, who is chairman of the LaRue High School English department and a leader in the teaching of writing skills.  Learn More

 

Laptop initiative receives ‘House approval’

U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie visits LaRue County High School to learn about computer use in classrooms

Congressman Brett Guthrie holds a Master’s degree from Yale University, graduated from West Point and once served as top Republican on the Higher Education, Lifelong Learning and Competitiveness Subcommittee in Washington. The U.S. Representative attained the majority of his educational accomplishments without the assistance of technology – a fact he referenced several times Thursday as he toured LaRue County High School to learn about the school’s laptop initiative. SPEECH TEAM IS GOING TO WASHINGTON DC!

 
The following LCHS Speech Team students qualified for competition at the NCFL Nationals in Washington, DC this May.  Ellis Fraser, 5th Place Prose/Poetry; Maegan Davis, 6th Place Oratory; Chelsea Blair, 3rd Place Oratory; James Reding, 1st Place Congress; Andrew Skaggs, 4th Place Extemp; Ian Mather, 2nd Place Prose/Poetry; Angelia Whitlock & Jeshua Logsdon, 2nd Place Duo Interp; Timmy Gibson, 1st Place Prose/Poetry; Spenser Reed, 5th Place Extemp.  LCHS 2nd Place Overall.

 LaRue County School District Makes Top 20 in "Return On Investment"

 
The LaRue County Schools system is one of twenty public school districts in Kentucky ranking in the highest category for "Return on Investment" (ROI).  They examined the achievement level and also the per pupil spending to see the return on investment.

2011 Winner Announced

 The three finalists for the 2011 Larue County ExCEL Teacher of the Year Award were honored at a dinner at Stone Hearth on Tuesday, February 15.  Board members, Mr. Sanders, principals, and Central Office staff attended the event along with the three finalists and their special guests.

Teachers trained on 'Project Based Learning'

Teachers at LaRue County High School are implementing a fresh approach to instruction, Project Based Learning, which they hope will help students to solve problems much as they’ll have to do once they graduate and face the real world. “Students will be in charge of their own learning, helping to develop the objectives, the process, and to some extent how they are assessed,” said Ruth Sorace, curriculum specialist....
